m-tec powder GmbH – Steel- and hot metal desulphurisation

As experts in development, production and mixing of customized reagents for hot metal desulphurisation processes, we are supplying a broad clientele in Germany, Europe and to a growing extent also globally.

The intensive interaction with our customers who require new and customized blends for their innovative products, is one of our main goals.

Highest quality standards are checked before the import of the raw material to guarantee best quality with regard to grain sizes and purity levels in our further processing at our site in Wesel.

Products for desulphurisation

The composition of our products will be in strict accordance with customer requirements, or mutually agreed guidelines according to application, intended usage and needed passivation level. During the whole production process, parameters such as chemical composition, homogeneity, density and flowability, are constantly monitored. Loading and transportation of the produced material is done completely safe under nitrogen coverage.

m-tec powder hot metal desulphurisation

For the production of desulphurisation blends, we are using magnesium in different purity levels (e.g. Mg 90%, 95%, 97%) or combine m-tec powder fluid lime with magnesium to result in an extremely effective desulphurizer, which can be blown effective and time saving into the melts by using m-tec powder HT injection technology. Calcium carbide and fluid lime complete our portfolio in hot metal desulphurisation.

m-tec powder steel desulphurisation

In steel desulphurisation, m-tec powder`s fluid lime with an extremely good flowability, has proven to generate fast and effective results.

m-tec powder GmbH secondary metallurgy

Furthermore, we are also producing synthetic slags, which accelerate processes in secondary metallurgy. Our lime based Meta products reduce unwanted elements to a minimum. The complete list of our products, development and application possibilities is available on request.

We are looking forward to your enquiries.

Hot metal desulphurisation as basis for various production processes

Our innovative hot metal desulphurisation reagents are used in all areas of metal processing industry. Especially the production of high performance steel grades, requires cost and time saving reagents. However these reagents will usually need to be adapted in their composition and intended performance, to perfectly meet intended production goals, applications and machines used. Within the last years, m-tec powder has proven itself a reliable supplier for many customers.

High-tec steel and modern hot metal desulphurisation

When producing hot metal in blast furnaces, the melt composed of ores, is enriched by adding ores coke during the so called sulphurisation phase. However, the percentage of Sulphur in the iron melt is much too high for the further processing to cast iron or steel. Consequently materials with a higher chemical affinity to Sulphur are added to the melt.

High-Tec steels are enabled by purity and homogeneity

Another challenge are ever more specialised purity levels of up to below 10ppm in the iron melt, which require a customized composition of reagents used. Amongst all the different methods to link desulphurization agent with the iron melt, the constant injection of the powdered reagents shows the best results. By using one or more tubes, the technical term being lances, an exactly defined quantity of desulphurization reagents is added to achieve a stable percentage and concentration of the reaction with the Sulphur. The hot metal desulphurisation reagents do not only have to meet exact grain size dimensions, but also have to be very homogeneous.
